Mariánské Lázně, a town founded at the beginning of the 19th century, is known around the world mainly because of the British king Edwards VII. Thanks to the monarch’s regular visits of the town, many famous artists and personages started coming to Mariánské Lázně from all over the world. That is why quite soon after its foundation the spa became the most important scene for cultural events in all Europe. This heritage is valid even today. Please enjoy then a romantic evening in the town theatre listening to classical or modern music or just watch a show. If you would like to broaden your knowledge, the town museum’s permanent exhibition is awaiting you just a few steps away from the town colonnade. You can also take part in the traditional spring welcoming ceremony, the celebration of World War II Day of Liberation, the renowned Chopin festival or the beer festival.
See the permanent exhibition of the town museum and get to know the history of Mariánské Lázně from the beginning. Besides the town’s history, you will also learn some interesting trivia about local nature and its beneficial effects. The town museum is located at the Goethe square and it can be reached in a few minutes coming from the town colonnade. Geological Park, which can be found in the local forest park, is also a part of the museum’s exhibition.
Opening of the Spa Season
See the yearly Opening of the Spa Season, the most anticipated social event in Mariánské Lázně, and enjoy its rich cultural programme. This musical and dancing event is produced completely by the students of the local arts school. The whole celebration is in the spirit of the oncoming spring and is therefore held annually at the beginning of May.
Fryderik Chopin Festival
Every year at the end of August Mariánské Lázně is honoured to host the international Fryderik Chopin Festival because of which many important famous musicians from all over the world come to town. In August 2014, Mariánské Lázně will be hosting the 55th annual festival.
Spa beer festival
Mariánské Lázně holds an annual beer festival at the beginning of the summer. The accompanying music is performed by the youth orchestra together with majorettes and local music bands.
