Mariánské Lázně, a true paradise of peaceful nature, offers numerous opportunities to all fans of walking. Besides the beauties of nature there are also important historical spots and interesting buildings. Near the spa town you can visit Hamelika Lookout Tower, the Jewish cemetery or the local Geological Park. True sightseers will definitely visit the Premonstratensian monastery in the picturesque village of Teplá or the nature reservation Kladská Peat Bogs.
Hamelika Lookout Tower
The red hiking trail mark will lead you directly from Anglická Street to Hamelika Lookout Tower. From the stone lookout tower, that has been standing in Mariánské Lázně ever since the end of 19th century, you will be able to see not only the spa town but also a part of the Slavkov Forest.
A place that is definitely worth visiting in Mariánské Lázně is the Jewish cemetery which is located in the middle of a forest close to the neighbouring village of Drmoul. Founded in 1875, the Jewish cemetery was completely ruined during “Night of Broken Glass” and rebuilt again only at the end of Second World War.
Lying in the forest park beyond the town colonnade, the Geological Park will introduce to you in one spot the rocks and minerals present all throughout Slavkov Forest. The natural exhibition grounds also contains plant communities selected in such a way as to correspond to the original geological bedrock.
Built in the 12th century, the Premonstratensian monastery in Teplá is a great attraction for many visitors. Its close link to Mariánské Lázně exists because of the abbot Karel Kašpar Reitenberger who was the major influence supporting the building of the spa. In the Roman-gothic monastery of Teplá the main and the cross altars are of interest as well as the shrine containing the remains of the monastery founder, the aristocrat Hroznata. The village of Teplá is only seventeen kilometres away from Mariánské Lázně in the direction of Karlovy Vary.
Kladská nature reservation
Set off along the nature trail Kladská Peat Bogs and learn something interesting besides taking away beautiful memories. The trail going through Tajga along the Kladská pond will make you familiar with the history, flora and fauna of Slavkov Forest. The surroundings of this beautiful reservation is also suitable for tourism, cycling and fishing. If you would like to taste some game, the local famous restaurant Lovecký Zámeček will definitely please you. The nature reservation Kladská Peat Bogs is only eight kilometres away from Mariánské Lázně.
